Digital SAT Program

The SAT exam is run by The College Board®, which was introduced in 1926 to access student readiness for college. In 2024, The College Board® started converting to the Digital SAT exam in order to make the exam more accessible and equitable for all students.

Format of THE new Digital sat exam

As of 2024, the SAT has transitioned to a new digital format, bringing major changes to the exam’s structure, timing, and delivery. The digital SAT is now divided into two main sections: Reading and Writing, and Math. Each section is scored on a 200–800 scale, for a total possible score of 1600. The exam is shorter than the previous paper-based version, lasting 2 hours and 14 minutes, and uses a multi-stage adaptive format, meaning a student’s performance on the first module influences the difficulty of questions in the second module. The essay portion is no longer part of the standard SAT.

Because the digital SAT is shorter, adaptive, and paced differently from previous versions, students need to prepare strategically in advance. Strong performance on the SAT can help students strengthen their college applications, qualify for scholarship opportunities, and improve their chances of admission to competitive universities.

Royal Education - Digital SAT FAQ's

Is there significant difference between the old SAT and new Digital SAT?

There are significant changes that have happened. The immediate, and most evident, is the shift from the physical to digital format. The exam is also reduced from the 3-hours format to a little over 2-hours format. Yet, the most drastic change is that the digital SAT exam is adaptive. This means that depending on how a student performs on the first section, it influences the second section of the respective subject. The exam is broken into 2 sections of English, 2 sections of Mathematics.

For your practice exams, where are students allowed to take them?

The digital format allows for more flexibility for students to take our practice exams. We provide the space for students to take the exam at our office. But, if the student’s schedule or location doesn’t permit it, students have the option to take it at home or any other location that offers internet. We recommend that the exam should be taken in a quiet setting to simulate closely to the real exam experience.
